Maternity Photography with Horses in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley


There is something incredibly beautiful about photographing motherhood alongside a much-loved horse. The connection, trust and history you share can bring so much meaning to your maternity photographs—especially when your horse has been part of your life long before your baby’s story began.


My maternity photography sessions with horses are created for clients who would love to include their own horse. I can come to your property, agistment paddock or another meaningful location, or we can plan an adventurous session somewhere such as the beach, where suitable access and permission are available.

More Than a Traditional Equine Portrait



These sessions are a little different from traditional equine photography. While your horse and the connection you share are important, the focus is on creating artistic maternity portraits and telling the story of this season in your life.

Rather than simply photographing you standing beside your horse, I look at the entire scene—the landscape, the light, movement, clothing and the quiet interactions that happen naturally between you. Your horse becomes a beautiful part of the story without taking the focus away from you and the little life you are carrying. The result is a collection that feels feminine, emotional and considered, while still remaining relaxed and true to you.

Maternity Photos at Your Property


You don’t need an elaborate property or a perfectly styled stable to create beautiful photographs. A paddock with long grass, a tree line, an old fence or a quiet track can become an incredible backdrop in the right light.

Coming to your property also allows your horse to remain in familiar surroundings, which can help everyone feel more comfortable. We can wander through the paddocks, photograph you beside the stable or choose a location that holds special meaning for you.


If there is more than one area we could use, I can help choose the best location based on the afternoon light, the landscape and where your horse is most settled. I’m always looking beyond the obvious to find the little pockets of beauty that will photograph well.

Beach Maternity Photography with Horses



A maternity session with your horse at the beach is particularly magical. The open landscape, soft sand, wind and movement create photographs that feel wild, romantic and full of freedom.


Beach sessions do require some additional planning. We need to consider safe horse access, local regulations, tides, other beach users and whether your horse is comfortable near the water. When the location and conditions align, though, the combination of motherhood, horses and the coastline creates something truly special.

Inspired by the Outdoors



My love for this style of photography comes from my own love of the outdoors. Some of my favourite family memories are made while camping, being surrounded by countryside, animals and open space, with slow evenings spent around a campfire.


I feel most inspired in places that are a little wild and untamed. I love discovering beautiful landscapes, watching how the light moves through long grass and finding ways to make nature part of the story rather than simply using it as a background.


That connection to outdoor life means I’m very comfortable working on rural properties, around animals and in locations that might require us to wander a little further. I understand that animals have their own personalities and that the most beautiful moments often happen when we allow a session to unfold naturally.


What to Wear for a Maternity Session with Your Horse


Clothing plays an important role in creating the artistic feel of these sessions. Flowing dresses and fabrics can introduce beautiful movement, particularly in an open paddock or at the beach.

Clients also have access to my extensive client wardrobe, which includes a range of dresses and other pieces in sizes 6–16. I can help you choose something that complements your location, your horse’s colouring and the overall feeling you would like for your photographs.

You may prefer something soft and romantic, earthy and understated, or slightly more dramatic. Bare feet, natural textures and warm, neutral colours often work beautifully in country and coastal settings.

Planning a Safe and Relaxed Session



Your horse’s wellbeing will always come first. You know your horse best, so we’ll talk beforehand about their temperament, what they are comfortable with and whether another experienced person should come along to assist.

There is no pressure for your horse to stand perfectly or perform in a particular way. We can take our time, allow breaks and work with their natural behaviour. Sometimes a gentle touch, the movement of a mane in the breeze or the way your horse leans towards you becomes far more meaningful than a perfectly posed photograph.


Partners and older children can also be included, depending on the horse, location and kind of session you are imagining.


A Meaningful Part of Your Motherhood Story


For many horse owners, a horse isn’t simply an animal kept in a paddock. They are a companion and an important part of your life. Including them in your maternity session creates a record of your relationship during a season filled with anticipation and change.
