There is something incredibly special about photographing a new baby at home. It is the place where you are settling into life together, learning all their tiny details and spending those beautifully slow newborn days.
In-home newborn photography allows these memories to be captured without needing to pack a bag, leave the house or arrive anywhere at a particular time. I come to you, allowing your session to unfold in a space where your family already feels comfortable.
Your Home Doesn’t Need to Be Perfect
One of the most common concerns I hear from families considering an in-home newborn photography session is that their house might not be suitable.
Perhaps it isn’t overly styled, every room doesn’t receive beautiful light or there are signs of real family life everywhere. None of that means we can’t create a beautiful gallery in your home.
This entire newborn session was photographed in just one bedroom. With soft window light, neutral tones and a simple bed, we were able to create a varied gallery filled with intimate family moments, individual portraits of the baby, beautiful parent images and all those tiny newborn details. Sometimes, one lovely pocket of light is all we need.
Two Approaches to Lifestyle Newborn Photography
My in-home newborn sessions can take a couple of different directions depending on your family, your home and the kind of imagery you are drawn to.
A full lifestyle newborn session makes use of more of the home. We might move between the nursery, bedroom and living areas, documenting natural moments as they happen. This approach creates a relaxed visual story of what life feels like during this season.
Alternatively, we can take a slightly more refined and gently posed approach to lifestyle photography. This may take place within one light-filled room or a few carefully selected areas of the house. I will offer more guidance with positioning, where to stand and how to hold your baby, while keeping everything natural, connected and true to your family.
Neither option relies on stiff posing or an immaculate home. We simply choose the approach that best suits your space and the photographs you would love to create.
Creating Variety Within One Room
Using only one room doesn’t mean every photograph will look the same.
Within this bedroom, we moved between the window and bed and photographed the family standing, sitting, cuddling and lying together. Baby was held by each parent, photographed peacefully on the bed and captured closely to preserve their tiny features.
Changes in perspective, composition and light can completely transform an image. A wide photograph may show the softness and simplicity of the room, while a close portrait focuses entirely on the connection between a parent and their baby. A mixture of colour and black-and-white imagery adds even more depth to the finished gallery.
The result is a collection that feels cohesive without being repetitive.
Relaxed, Natural and Gently Guided
Lifestyle newborn photography does not mean you are left wondering what to do.
I will gently guide you throughout your session, helping you find natural and flattering positions while leaving room for genuine moments to happen. You don’t need to know how to pose, and your baby doesn’t need to sleep for the entire session.
Whether they are peacefully curled against you, stretching, feeding or simply looking around, each part of their newborn personality is worth remembering.
My approach is relaxed and baby-led, with a focus on connection rather than perfection. The little way your baby settles against your chest, the difference in size between their hand and yours, and the expressions that pass between you are often the moments that become the most meaningful.

In-home newborn photography is about more than using your house as a backdrop. It preserves a small part of your family’s story—the room where you cuddled your baby, the bed where you rested together and the quiet feeling of those first weeks at home.
